Smoothie Saturday: Superberry Smoothie (AKA Cherry, Cherry Quite Contrary)

Superberry Smoothie

Cherry, cherry in my smoothie? Kinda scary. Took a risk and it paid off big time! This bowl, slightly modified from Lily Kunin’s Good Clean Food is tasty and packed with nutrients.

The Recipe

To Blend:

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1/4 cup cherries
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  • 1/2 tbsp maca root powder
  • 1/2 tbsp raw cacao powder
  • 1 scoop Orgain Organic Plant-Based Protein Powder in Vanilla (or your protein of choice)
  • Dash of cinnamon

To Top:

  • 1/2 banana sliced
  • 1/4 blueberries
  • 1 cherry on top 🍒

Why It’s Good

  • Cacao (which is the unprocessed, unsweetened older sibling of cocoa) contains calcium, tons of antioxidants, magnesium to support heart and brain health, and iron. Also, it’s a natural mood booster!1
  • Maca, another Amazonian superfood, can help protect your skin from UV rays, is a natural energizer, and even helps counteract sexual dysfunction.2

Blend the blendables and top with toppings. If you’re hungry for more, check out Lily’s cookbook for yourself. You can find it at many major retailers, but I’ll link to an independent bookstore if you are interested in supporting a local business.
